I remember the day when I received my first batch of t-shirts I had ever designed. It was just after 2pm on a Friday, I was excited to finally hold the first batch of t-shirts I had ever made. I had managed to design the print on some free software that I found online and only had enough money to make 10 t-shirts. It wasn't a big order but it was enough to get me going and keep this half baked dream alive.
As I waited in the car park I was already planning the next batch of t-shirts that I wanted to design and release.
They were crap. The print was crap, the t-shirt was crap, no other way to put it, just pure and utter crap. I inspected the rest of the batch. The print was pixelated from having to be scaled up to fit my requirements. The t-shirt quality was bad. Everything was falling apart, but in that exact moment I had clarity. I knew I had a choice that needed to be made. I could either give up and admit defeat or face the situation as is and learn.
I sold all 10 t-shirts at cost price and carried on pushing. Those 10 t-shirts taught me that people are willing to take a risk, if you are willing to believe that it's worth it.
