Thinking back and reflecting on using essential oils throughout pregnancy, labor and, currently, in postpartum. I couldnt have done it without some amazing resources however. Gentle Babies, and Betsy Bosoms Baby Book were two amazing books that I would recommend to anyone thinking about using essential oils throughout this time in their life. In pregnancy essential oils supported me with the crazy roller coaster of emotions by applying topically and diffusing. I made myself a belly butter to help with reducing stretch marks, and I was able to find some comfort with the swollen legs and aches and pains that come with growing a human by applying oils topically. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For labor I had prepared a roller for pain relief that I applied on my lower back, as well as a calm roller that I would roll on my pulse points. I also brought with me peppermint to help with nausea/energy, orange for a burst of energy, valor to encourage confidence, gentle baby to help with bonding with baby, peace and calming for emotions, and panaway for my support person 🙂 And of course - Ningxia! This with lots of ice cubes was my heaven during labor! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Postpartum I prepared things ahead of time and I am so glad I did. Padsicles as well as sitz bath were very helpful to have on hand during this time. I also continue to use the calm roller that I had prepared for labor, I wear valor often, and diffuse peace and calming regularly.
Growing and bringing a baby into this world is an empowering experience. Using essential oils throughout this journey gave me an even greater sense of empowerment and I am so thankful for the positive experiences they gave me. If you ever have questions about using oils throughout your pregnancy and postpartum journey I'd love to share stories, experiences and recipes with you because these oils truly are an amazing tool that can support any area of life!
